Essential oils are extracted from plants, flowers, and roots and have healing benefits that can improve our overall health. They are light weight, unlike the heavy oils we use for our hair, like Olive and Coconut oil. Essential oils are unlike any other substance in the world. Their small molecules allow them to pass through our skin, blood, and all the way into our cells! The can even pass through the blood brain barrier. That’s why they are called “healing oils”.

Beware of using synthetic or fragrance oils on your hair and skin. Many companies claim that their oils are “essential”, yet they have added by-products, making them adulterated oils. Synthetic oils are thick and sticky, and are known to cause allergic reactions. Essential oils have no by-products added, and leave no residue on the skin because they penetrate so quickly.

Below is a guide of some top oils that can be used in your health and beauty regimens. Make them part of your overall everyday lifestyle.

*Note that many essential oils can not be applied directly to the skin without being diluted. As a general rule, essential oils should be diluted in a carrier oil (vegetable or nut oil, like cold pressed coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil).*

*Women who are pregnant or nursing should take special care to note which essential oils are not recommended for use during these times. Please consult with your physician before you start using any stimulating essential oils.
